Askara Group

Achievements

For the past 25+ years, Askara has been instrumental in introducing several noteworthy technologies and services to the Indian Oil & Gas industry. However, the following achievements detailed here demonstrate the Askara Advantage, where a combination of grit, determination, dedication and acumen resulted in eventual success, right from closing the sale to successfully executing the order, thereby benefitting the customer, our principal and Askara.

Offshore Modular Workover Rigs with Sundowner

In 1998, Askara pioneered the use of Modular Workover Rigs on ONGC’s unmanned offshore platforms—offering a cost-effective alternative to expensive jack-up rigs. The first Sundowner rig (SD VI) was successfully deployed in 2003, followed by SD VII and SD V, collectively saving ONGC millions over two decades while optimizing well intervention operations.

WOM Blowout Preventers (BOPs) Breakthrough

Askara played a critical role in securing ONGC approval for WOM Blowout Preventers in 2010—breaking a 30-year status quo. Backed by persistent engagement and technical due diligence, this success opened the market to over 100 BOPs sold in India and $75+ million in sales, establishing WOM as a trusted supplier.

HPHT Field Study with Blade Energy

Askara facilitated the onboarding of Blade Energy Partners to lead a comprehensive, multidisciplinary study of ONGC’s HPHT assets in the Cauvery and KG Basins. The multi-million dollar project brought together over 30 experts and set a new benchmark for technical collaboration and reservoir planning under ONGC’s Center of Delivery.

GSPC’s First Platform Drilling Rig with Nabors

In 2010, Askara’s timely intervention helped GSPC modify its offshore platform design to support a platform-mounted rig. This led to the commissioning of Nabors Rig 805—India’s first 3000 HP platform rig—which saved GSPC over $100 million and introduced a new, stable-cost drilling model. ONGC soon followed suit with Rig P-16 in 2012.
